Our claim as the Jewish people is that our origin began at Mt. Sinai when we received the Torah. Many of us, when beginning our pursuit of Torah wisdom, often overlook an important question and that is, what is Torah? The answer at first seems obvious until we contemplate it further. Understanding the answer to this fundamental question, is something we need to thoroughly comprehend if we want to unlock the power of Torah to transform us into who we truly are.

In ancient times, our nation benefitted from the service of prophets. The primary responsibility of a prophet was to rebuke and admonish the people when they veered off course from the proper path that the Almighty has planned for them. But what now? Prophecy has been extinct for more than 2300 years. How do we know if the Almighty is displeased with us? In this collection of teachings in the Mishnah we discover the answer. The Almighty still conveys messages to us; not via a prophet but via the things that happen to us and to the people around us.

In a Jewish court of law, capital crime cases are distinct from civil or monetary ones. In this Mitzvah we outlines some of the hurdles facing the court seeking a capital crime conviction. It turns out that although there are many commandments that contain a punishment of capital crime, in effect, executions are astonishingly rare under the Torah’s system of laws.
