Parsha: Tetzaveh – The Great Collaboration

Besides being brothers, Moshe and Aaron were both leaders of the Jewish people: Moshe was the king and Aaron was the high priest. These brothers had different, but complimentary, skills and characteristics, that were each independently necessary for the nation. In this special edition of The Parsha Podcast, we do a very deep dive into the nation of Moshe’s leadership vs. Aaron’s, how they complimented and completed each other.

Purim: Esther on an Allegorical Level

On Purim we read the Book of Esther, which tells the story of the Purim miracle. The Persian king Achashverosh conspires with his Amalekite viceroy Haman to eradicate the entire Jewish nation, but God refused to allow their plans to unfold. Queen Esther, together with her relative Mordechai, spearhead the effort to turn the plan on it’s head: Instead of Haman killing Mordechai and the Jews; the Jews were given free rein to destroy their enemies. Every year we commemorate this miracle on the holiday of Purim. But the story goes deeper. Every part of Torah can be understood on multiple dimensions. The Gaon of Vilna wrote a masterful commentary explaining the Book on an allegorical level, in which the characters and the storylines symbolize the various conflicts of our lives. What emerges is a stunning portrayal of central components of Jewish philosophy that also contains very incisive lessons for Purim itself.

The Anatomy of a Tzadik with Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe

Growing up secular, greatly limited my understanding of the capacity of mankind’s greatness. The secular world is so pre-occupied with making their heroes people who are talented musicians, actors, athletes, or businesspeople, but whose private life lacks much to be admired.  As Jews we have Tzadikim to look up to and admire and strive to emulate.   These are people that have truly optimized themselves to become angles in this world.  In this episode Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe, Executive Director of TORCH and host of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast, joins us to share some mind blowing and inspiring stories of these Tzadikim that will open your mind to your true potential.

Jewish Life: A Life of Joy

When Adar enters, we increase in Joy (Talmud Taanis 29a). Adar, the month in which contains the Festival of Purim, kickstarts the season on joy in the Jewish calendar. On this month we were saved from Haman’s genocide, and it is closely followed by Nissan, the month of the Exodus. What does the Torah mean by joy? What is the role that joy plays in Jewish life? It turns out that joy is a central aspect of Jewish living.

Parsha: Terumah – 3 Points Behind the Ark

In the epicenter of the Tabernacle, in the Holy of Holies, was the Ark of the Covenant. This golden vessel was the receptacle of the Tablets, both the First Tablets which Moshe shattered at the foot of Mount Sinai in the aftermath of the sin of the Golden Calf, and the Second Tablets which endured. In this special edition of The Parsha Podcast, we share three powerful observations and lessons about the Ark.

Parsha: Mishpatim – Crowning Achievement

The end of our Parsha revisits the Sinai Revelation of Parsha Yisro and recounts some of the preparations for the Ten Commandments. In the negotiations and deliberations in the runup to Sinai, the Nation declares that they will do and they will listen to all the commandments. This statement, we will do and we will listen, became the rallying cry of our people. Our Nation committed itself to God before we knew what that entailed. In this special edition of the Parsha Podcast, we explore this very powerful and consequential declaration.

TORAH 101: The Case for the Divinity of Torah

The most important question we must ask is, “who wrote the Torah?” The consequences of this question are vast: If the Torah is divine, then its laws are obligatory and immutable; if the Torah is a hoax, then studying it and obeying its laws are ultimately a waste of time. If the Torah is legit, then we can be comforted that our efforts are not in vain; if its a fabrication then we have all been duped. In this podcast we approach the subject from various angles and demonstrate the overwhelming evidence pointing to the Torah being the handiwork of the Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth.

The Devil is in the Details with Rabbi Cohen – Part II

There is a concept in Torah that for many of us creates confusion, especially as we begin our exploration of Torah wisdom.  It is the subject of the Satan.  The reason for the confusion is that this is a similar term that we regularly hear used by the Christians.   However, while similar terms, definitionally they are totally opposing concepts.  The Christians believe that the Satan is a separate opposing power to Hashem, an idea that is idolatrous and heretical as G-d is the only power and source of existence.   The Torah teaches us that the Satan is a servant to Hashem, playing a vital role in His creation, to provide us with the free will opportunity to grow closer to our Creator.  The devil is in the details.  In this episode Rabbi Cohen provides enlightening clarity on this subject to the both the beginner and advanced student.
