Parsha: Parshas Bereishis (Rebroadcast)

With praise and appreciation to the Almighty, we begin another year of Torah study and a new cycle of the Parsha Podcast. This year, we will reupload the previous year’s podcast which covered the entire Parsha in each episode each week, and we will, please God, record a second weekly episode that will delve deeply into one of the themes or comments of the parsha. Thank you for downloading and please share with a friend.

TORAH 101

Parsha: Vezos Habracha – Antidotes to Mediocrity

In the Torah’s final Parsha, and indeed, in its final words, we say goodbye to the greatest human to have ever lived. With the passing of Moshe, the Torah ends, and on Simchas Torah- the day that we finish the yearly Torah cycle – we roll the scroll back to the very beginning and begin Genesis anew. In this very special edition of The Parsha Podcast, we explore the end of the Torah and its beginning; we examine the path to greatness of Moshe and the six other giants who comprise the “Seven Shepherds” who faithfully led our people; we connect the message of Moshe with the Festival of Sukkos that we are currently amid, and we share the overarching message of The Parsha Podcast. We set out to accomplish something very ambitious, and I think we pulled it off.

Hoshana Rabbah, Shemini Atzeret, and Simchat Torah: The Meaning of Sukkot’s Climax

The Festival of Sukkot ends with a three-day constellation of significant days: The seventh day is Hoshana Rabbah, the eighth is Shemini Atzeres, and the ninth is Simchas Torah. These days have unique customs not found in any other day in the Jewish calendar. In this sweeping podcast episode, we explore these days, plumb their mysterious and Kabbalistic meaning, and demonstrate how they are a fitting culmination of Sukkot, and indeed of the entire Festival season.

TORAH 101

Dreaming of a Sunny Sukkah

We are amid the incredible Festival of Sukkos. Each day (except Shabbos) we shake the Lulav and Esrog, we celebrate with our family, and we dwell in our temporary residence, the Sukkah. But what happens when the weather does not comply? What do we do when it gets swelteringly hot? In this podcast, we demonstrate that an unpleasant Sukkah is something that ought to be not only tolerable, but highly desirable. Give it a listen and tell me if you agree.

TORAH 101

But I’m a good person…with Rabbi Yaakov Wolbe – Part II

A common statement I have heard from fellow Jews is, “I don’t study Torah and keep the mitzvos but, I’m a good person and that’s what G-d really cares about.”   In this episode I have the witty, brilliant, and entertaining, Rabbi Yaakov Wolbe join us to delve into and unravel this statement. Whether you are someone who has asked this same question or a Torah observant Jew, the insights he provides during this conversation will leave you with a much deeper understanding and appreciation of why the Almighty gave us the 613 mitzvos.

The Glorious Clouds of Sukkos

Over the course of the Festival of Sukkos (sometimes spelled “Sukkot”, sometimes “Succos”, rivaled only by the nightmare of trying to find the definitive spelling of Chanukah – Hannukah, Hanukkah), we must dwell in a temporary structure, a Sukkah. Why? “In order that your generations know that [God] made Sukkahs for us during the Exodus.” After we were redeemed from the enslavement of Egypt, the Almighty made us Sukkah, and we commemorate that miracle more than 3300 years later with a seven day Festival. What is the nature of the Sukkah that God made for us? Our Sages tell us that they were the “Clouds of Glory.” What are the clouds of glory and what do they have to do with the Festival of Sukkos? Listen to this podcast and find out.

Parsha: Ha’azinu – Small Step for Eaglet

The Song of Ha’azinu is a richly textured tapestry with layered meaning and subtleties. Our Sages tell us that t incorporates all of Jewish History. In its 613 words, it incorporates all of Torah as well. And it is arguably the most difficult Torah portion to decipher and unpack. In this special penultimate podcast of the fifth cycle of the Parsha Podcast, we examine a striking verse that compares the relationship between God and us to that of an eagle and its young. Upon initial assessment this seems like a strange comparison. W hen we explore the commentaries, however, we discover a life-changing perspective. This episode pairs perfectly with the upcoming holy day of Yom Kippur so give it a swig. Take it for a flight. It will be a joyous and thrilling ride.
